to create my kart i used this sketch up tutorial as a guide http://wn.com/3D_Modeling_Karting_1
there are a few things you can do in sketch up which you cant in max so i had to work aroudn this.
i started the kart by creating the seat.
firstly with a box and then scaled the lines to the edges and extruded upwards. i then moved verticies aroudn to create the shape.

i then created a lip on the edges of the seat to create the curved edge.

final product

i then created the wheels from cylinders and beveled the end in.
the base of the kart is a box i have extruded and scaled the edges to form the given shape.
and for the skirts on the side and the front spoiler i also used boxes and repositioned the vertexs to get the required shape. i made lines very close to the edges so that once smoothed the main shape was retained and just the corners were rounded.

i used symetry on the front spolier to make both sides the same. and mirrored the side bumper to the other side. lastly copied the wheels to each corner.
